About Our Church

About Our Church

The Rensselaerville Presbyterian Church offers services of worship at 11:00 a.m. each Sunday from late June through Labor Day weekend, with communion on selected Sundays. Service is followed by a coffee hour of fellowship on the lawn and luncheon hosted by a member or friend of the church to which the congregation is invited. We are a welcoming church. Whether you are a person of faith, no faith or questioning faith, we are happy to have you attend our services. See the Schedule of Services and Sermons tab for a list of this year’s guest preachers and sermons. We are located at the corner of County Route 351 and Methodist Hill Road in Rensselaerville, NY.

The Session

The Session is a body of elders, elected by a church’s membership, that governs each local Presbyterian church (similar to a board). An elder is a person valued for their wisdom who holds a particular position of responsibility in a church and who is ordained to that office. The pastor, or in our case our moderator, convenes and presides over meetings of the Session in addition to pastoral duties. The elders who are members of the Session have both executive powers as a group (i.e. responsible for the business of the church) and pastoral responsibility for the congregation. Each Session appoints an elder as Clerk of Session to send notices of and take minutes at meetings, keep records, distribute documents, maintain the membership roll and handle official correspondence, among other duties.
